Spacious, non-restrictive, and easy to bespoke – these are the key reasons why lofts have gained popularity over the years. Having a well decorated and maintained loft at your house gives you the feel to have a place of freedom where you are not restricted by the conventional walls and space division. It’s not surprising anymore why lofts became so popular among artists of Europe; probably the unconventional space and freeness of loft helped in sparking unique artistic expressions of the 20th century. And that’s why an office in your loft is a very good idea.

The early lofts were created by transforming abandoned factory buildings and warehouses into a work-cum-living spaces. These lofts are characterized by large windows, minimum arrangement of basic amenities to live in, and a high ceiling. The unrestricted space and high ceilings proved supportive to accommodate, move and manage the large art pieces.

This is how it started. Today loft is highly popular among the young generation because of its aristocratic appeal and openness to new ideas. If you are thinking about creating an office in your loft then check out these 8 awesome ideas.

1. Dormer Loft Office

The Dormer type loft conversion is the most popular because it provides the most space and good head room. Built atop the existing slanted roof it is characterized by a flat top, which means it transforms the triangle shaped existing small space into spacious box shape space. This design allows you to add windows on three sides, maybe a small balcony to do a little stretch between work, and a skylight to have ample natural light in your office.

2. Mansard Loft Office

The Mansard loft conversion changes the shape of the sloped roof of your house by adding inward tilted back walls and a flat top. This type of loft conversion gives a sloping roof a unique shape and a 72-degree angle to its structure. The new roof has windows installed in it that resemble little window dormers. Similar to dormers, mansard conversions are often built on the back of a property, however this can be installed at the front, or at both sides as double mansards.

3. L-Shaped Dormer Loft Office

The L-shaped Dormer loft gives you the opportunity to make a multipurpose office space. This design is similar to the standard Dormer but with an extended side. L-shape can be achieved by adding a new dormer at the side of an existing dormer loft and then connecting them, or you can build a fresh L-shaped dormer on two roofs situated side-by-side. By adopting a L-shaped ensign for your office you will get access to more space to keep your books, office stationery and essentials, or a bed for a power nap between works.

4. L-Shaped Mansard Loft office

Similar to L-shaped Dormer in this conversion two Mansards are built side-by-side to add extra space. The use of L-shaped Mansard is similar to Dormer, but generally Mansard conversion involves the complete alteration of roof structure, hence it is more expensive but provides more space than Dormer conversion.

5. Hip-to-Gable Loft office

Hip-to-Gable Loft office is the best option for those houses which are semi-detached and have an existing hipped roof. To increase the space the hip is extended vertically to create a gable dormer, effectively maximizing the headspace and also the floor. However, since this design is dependent on the ridgelines of the hipped roof, it can only be built at the rear of the house.

6. Velux Loft Office

Velux loft conversion, also known as skylight conversion is the most affordable loft conversion available. This is the best option for a startup leader to have office space without spending much. This is an affordable option because there is no major structural change involved, the roofline remains unaltered, just windows are added to the ceiling to make the inside bright and airy.

There are so many ideas to put a stylish and cozy office in your loft. Choose from the above options and decorate it as per your taste. Consider having some greens, soothing colors and minimally styled office furniture to turn the loft into a lovable and inspiring workspace.
